The Blue Cross Corporate Headquarters resembles a rural ranch compound rather than a corporate structure. Blue Cross officials requested a non-pretentious, low profile facility that blended well with the site's rural environment. Construction for the first three buildings was completed in November 1997. In 2005, corporate growth, increasing number of employees and the need for additional space motivated Blue Cross to proceed with the construction of the fourth "Southwest Building". The new building incorporated current and appropriate construction methods while connecting visually and functionally to the original structures.
